In the final of the Women's World cup, the US fell to Japan despite out-possessing them and out-shooting them in a pk shootout. During the overtime penalty shoot out, Carli missed a crucial penalty kick, shooting high and over the cross bar, which would have tied the score at that point. The US women concluded the World Cup with 2 celebration friendlies. Lloyd played in the first game of the series, in which the US debuted a new formation that saw Lloyd become more of a possession midfielder as opposed to an attacking one. She played well finding Heather O'Reilly in the corner for a cross to Abby that ended in a free kick for Wambach which she took full advantage of.

For her USWNT career, Lloyd has 117 caps with 28 goals.

Currently the US is on a break with camp starting again in early November to gear up for the November 19th friendly against Sweden.
