, he won the gold medal in the Greco-Roman middleweight competition in 1920. Four years later he won the gold medal in the Greco-Roman light heavyweight competition. He also competed in the freestyle light heavyweight event

In his last Olympics competition, Westergren won the gold medal in the Greco-Roman heavyweight competition again, ahead of Czech Josef Urban and Austrian Nikolaus Hirschl. He died in Malmö.
