Its name comes from the parish name and "T.P Gibson's estate".

Today

The town is affectionately known by its inhabitants as Burrum, with attractions ranging from a visit to the Wirraminna community environmental education centre, pulling back a beer at the Farmers Inn Hotel, and a trip to the historic Burrum Hall.

The community is well alive with a rich sporting culture. The Burrumbuttock Tennis and Cricket Clubs are essential to the life of the inhabitants. The football and netball club has recently merged with neighbouring town Brocklesby
