Career

Buddhadeb started his career as a economics teacher, at the Shyamsunder College in Burdwan followed by City College, Calcutta. In 1976, when disenchanted by the gap he perceived between the economic theory he taught and the socio-political reality, he took to film making. His elder daughter, Rajeshwari Dasgupta (Ghose), who is a trained classical pianist, has been the assistant director and critic of her father's national award-winning movies and documentaries.
