Future development

As part of a the government's "Access for All" scheme, Southeastern have announced improvements to the station. Due to start in Autumn 2011 and expected to be completed by Summer 2012, in time for the London 2012 Olympics, the improvements are to include two new lifts to provide step-free access between the main station building and platforms, a new station frontage, an enlarged booking hall, reduced clutter on the platforms, improvements to the existing staircases with new handrails and anti-slip tread and refurbished toilets, including fully accessible toilet at platform level.

Posters at the station have since confirmed the above planned works and have also stated that there will be new Passenger Information Systems installed at the station. The on-site WHSmith's, located in the main station building, ceased trading in September 2011 in preparation for the renovation works.
