BIMM was conceived by musicians Bruce John Dickinson, Damian Keyes

, Kevin Nixon and former Sony Music business manager Sarah Clayman, who between them have sold six million records worldwide and enjoyed fifty chart hits. BIMM was founded at the BIMM East facility in 2001, then proceeded to open its doors at West in 2005.

BIMM opened a new college based in Bristol in September 2008 and are set to open a college in Dublin in 2011.

BIMM is a college run by musicians for musicians with a strong emphasis on live music and playing instruments well.

Guitar Courses, Bass Courses, Vocal Courses, Drum Courses, Songwriting Courses, Live Sound and Tour Management Courses, Music Business Courses.

The college offers music career courses in guitar, drums, songwriting, vocals, keyboards, live sound & tour management and music entrepreneur. Full and part time courses to degree level.

  • BIMM HOUSE - located in Brunswick Street West [Hove]. Opening in October 2009. Facilities will include two performance areas; the first with a capacity for an audience of 140 people + lighting, rig, vision mixer and P.A. system. The second area is focused on singer/songwriters with a capacity of 100 including full P.A. and lighting. There is also a research centre with 22 computers.
  • BIMM BRISTOL - located in King Square, Bristol. Facilities include an 8000 sq ft (743.2 m²) facility based in central Bristol, comprising a 70 sq ft (6.5 m²) Live Performance Studio, and six smaller teaching studios, as well as a Resource Centre, individual tutorial spaces and a common room. BIMM Bristol also utilizes legendary Bristol Venue the Thekla for Live Performance Workshops and End of Term Shows.
  • BIMM DUBLIN- City centre location to be confirmed.


BIMM also hosts gigs at reputable Brighton venues including the Concorde 2, Komedia and Coalition and Bristol venues including Thekla and Metropolis. All takings from these shows on the door, go direct to BIMM's chosen charities.

Every year, all the students compete for their tracks to be included on the BIMM charity record How To Mend A Broken Pier. Now on its ninth volume and renamed What's Inside Your Head?', the funds from downloads and local record sales go to the Nordoff Robbins Charity.
