On November 19, 2007 he was traded to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a second round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. On December 14, 2008 Sutherby was traded to the Dallas Stars
for David McIntyre
and a conditional 6th round draft pick. On March 9, 2009, Sutherby was re-signed by the Stars to a two-year contract.
On October 21, 2011, Sutherby was given a professional try-out from the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL.
