History

The property was purchased by James Booth in 1849 and built a brick dwelling for $600 of his wife's dowry. The house, completed in 1853, has remained virtually unchanged since then.

Booth rose to prominence in Guernsey County due to his large land-holdings (upwards of 700 acres) and seemingly endless stream of money. Booth resided in the house until his death in 1901.

Upon Booth's death, his property was split among his heirs at 120 acre (0.4856232 km²) a piece, with his son Milton Booth inheriting the homestead. He managed the property until his premature death in 1907, when the property passed to his sister Mary Jane and her husband Jasper Little. Several years later the property came into the possession of Frank Booth, a grandson of James Booth. It remained in his hands until his death in the 1970s, when it passed out of the family.
