Lamb began coaching as an assistant for the Paladins in 1986 and was the defensive end

s coach on the 1988 team that won the I-AA National Championship. He became the quarterbacks coach in 1989, a position he would fill until taking over head coaching duties in 2002. In November 2010, he announced he was resigning at Furman after missing the playoffs 4 straight years.

On January 20, 2011, it was announced that Lamb will be the first modern head football coach for Mercer University
