Blackduck History

The town of Blackduck was established in December 1900. The first settlers of this community came from Crookston, MN. The town was founded because of the great logging potential of the area. Near where the town is settled is the Continental Divide which provided good drainage resulting in good logging because the land wasn't wet.

About 8 miles outside of Blackduck is Camp Rabideau. Roosevelt opened 2,650 camps for the New Deal Program and this is one of them. The camp is a National Historic Landmark. It is very well preserved. The camp was opened to give jobs to young men between the ages of 17 and 21 in hopes of helping the country get out of the depression.

Businesses

There are several establishments in Blackduck that serve food. These places include Hillcrest Supper Club, Countryside Restaurant, Timberline, Blackduck Bowling Alley, and the American Legion all are located off of Highway 71, Trails-end located on Main Street, Blackduck Family Foods and The Pond on Frontage Road.

The town of Blackduck has two hotels. The Drake Motel is located across the street from The Pond.

Blackduck Golf Course is located one mile west of Highway 71. This is a nine hole course with cart rental provided. The golf course is located near the public access to Blackduck Lake. Pine Tree Park is just a short walk from the lake access. This is the closest camp ground to Blackduck. Blackduck Lake has numerous resorts that surround the lake.
