. The estate is currently undergoing redevelopment following investment. The shopping centre located in the middle of the estate is currently being rebuilt. . It has a few schools of all types. Birchwood has takeaways, pubs and attractions and its own police station. The Birchwood Centre is situated within reach of the people of Birchwood with its own shops, a pub, supermarket and bus stop. Main roads in the area are Skellingthorpe Road, Birchwood Avenue, Woodfield Avenue, Fulmar Road and Pershore Way. The coast is 40 miles away. It is the home of Hartsholme Country Park

Birchwood used to hold an old Airfield from World War Two based on the Birchwood Leisure centre site, RAF Skellingthorpe
