The journal was first published in 1979 under the title Journal of Applied Biochemistry (ISSN 0161-7354) by Academic Press

Biotechnology and Applied Biochemistry is now published bi-monthly by Wiley-Blackwell, confirming the journal's dedication to change and commitment to rapid publication of high-quality, cutting-edge research at the interface between life sciences and their translation. It publishes new concepts in technology/methodology of relevance to the biological, biomedical, agricultural and environmental sciences. From 2007, the journal has appeared monthly online.
