History

Biomatters was founded in 2003 by Daniel Batten, Dr. Alexei Drummond, Dr. Athena Ferreira and Julio Ferreira. Capital for Biomatters was raised through the IceHouse

. As of 2010, Biomatters has sold licenses of Geneious Pro into more than 65 countries world-wide and into more than 2,000 universities, institutes and biotechnology companies globally.

In 2007, Geneious Pro was selected for the National Science and Research Network, signed partnerships with the Microsoft BioIT Alliance and won two awards: The United Nations World Summit Award in the category e-science and a Computerworld Excellence award for innovative use of ICT.

Also in 2007, Founder Dr. Alexei Drummond won the Royal Hamilton Memorial Prize for Contributions to Computational Biology.

In 2008, Biomatters launched Geneious Pro 4.0, developed plugins for a suite of EMBOSS
