Bidhannagar College started its journey on June 25, 1984 in a small building at BF-142, Salt Lake, Kolkata 700064 with a student strength of 52. The founder principal was Dr. Subes Chandra Sarkar. Undergraduate courses in Mathematics

With the gradual increase in the number of departments and the corresponding student strength, the original building became inadequate. A new, larger building at EB 2, Salt Lake, Kolkata 700064 was constructed on 7.5 acres (30,351.5 m²).

Building

The present building, located on 7.5 acres (30,351.5 m²) of prime real estate, is an impressive three-storey structure with manicured front gardens and a playground for students. The foundation stone of the new structure was laid by Jyoti Basu

A student also has to take two compulsory language papers, available combinations being English and Bengali, or English and Alternative English (offered only to those who did not take Bengali as a subject in Grades 11 and 12). All students are required to take Environmental Studies.
