. His first large international success he achieved at the Olympic Games in Munich, 1972. Where as members of the GDR eight won the Bronze Medal. At the EM he won with the boat European champion 1973. Later he formed with his twin brother Jörg one of the most successful two without all times, which achieved 179 victories in 180 sequential runnings. 1973 reached he with the European championships, however only the third place.  1980. They became Olympic winners. Besides they triumphed with the world championships 1974, 1975, 1978 and 1979 and became three times masters of the GDR (1974, 1978 and 1979). Apart from its career it successfully completed 1969-1977, a sport study and worked after its active time as a coach at SC Dynamo Potsdam. He is today a coach with the German rudder federation (DRV) and a multiplicity from athletes to medal winners with world championships and Olympic plays made. He competed for the SC Dynamo Potsdam/ Sportvereinigung (SV) Dynamo.
