The Name of Bayi
(八一) means that Ba (八) is for eight and Yi (一) is for one. This name comes from the People's Liberation Army
's establishment in 1 August 1927.
Bayi had a long history of honors and won the national title five times before 1986. However, as a part of the People's Liberation Army
, Bayi can not introduce foreign players and attract sponsors.
After the formation the Chinese Football Association Jia League
(now Chinese Super League
) in 1994, Bayi moved its home city almost every year for financial reasons. Their home cities include Taiyuan
