It is 84 km from Raipur & 67 km from Bilaspur. Total area is about sq. 16 km. The main occupation of the people is agriculture and service in cement factories. It is a good source of cement. Basic facilities like schools, electricity, water, and hospitals are easily available here. The educational institutions are of basic level(Up to graduation). For higher studies, a student has to go outside. Baloda Bazar has been a centre for education for the neighbouring areas for many decades.A number of private institutions have come up now for the primary education and one Law college is also running since many years. There is a famous temple of "Lord Shiva". Which is located in front of Bus-Stand.

).This town was very famous for its cattle market in the region. The market still exists with name "Bhaisa Pasra". This market was found by Marwadi traders who used to bring and sell their cattles here. They later on settled here only. Here they built lakes, temples and wells. Some of them are still existing today. Ramsagar Talab, Mawli Mata Mandir and Hanuman Mandir reveals their presence. .

Purani Basti or the area adjoining the Mawli Mata Mandir is the oldest area of the town.
