Youth Ballet Folklorico classes Monday and Wednesday 6-7pm ages 4–17
Viviana is the Artistic Director of the Ballet Folklorico en Aztlan with over 40 years of experience offering ceremonies, lectures, classes, workshops and performances to thousands throughout Aztlan. Her love for La Cultura is shared in harmony with ancient knowledge and passed on to the youth and future generations.
Viviana has the distinction as being one of the youngest California Arts Council Artists in Residence – Artists in Communities awardees for her work in dance. She was the conference Co-Director for the national conference of folkloristas held at UCSD for the Asociacion Nacional de Folkloristas. An advocate for arts education and the benefit dance has on cognitive development she wrote, directed and collaborated with the San Diego Unified School District to develop a K-3 grade educational DVD focusing on 4 different regional dances with complimentary math tie–ins. She directs the Longfellow Elementary Ballet Folklorico en Aztlan. She was the Performing and Visual Arts Coordinator for the Centro Cultural de la Raza in San Diego, California and was the a founding Instructor/Dance /Coordinator for the dance program at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center in San Antonio, Texas.
The Ballet Folklorico en Aztlan founded in 1967 by Herminia Enrique and family and under the direction of Artistic Director Viviana C. Enrique Acosta is known for its exquisite style and commitment to preserving the indigenous aspects of Mexican folklore while creating new works complementing traditional forms with contemporary dance movements. The BFA as it is affectionately known has a long history of presenting theatrical productions whilst maintaining the style and intent of the dances.
Community Performances, Workshops and Classes: BFA shares culture through dance with over 40 years of memorable offerings enhancing the quality of life for the region. The BFA offers Ballet Folklorico performances and arts education for all ages at festivals, school assemblies, and conferences, corporate and private events showcasing various regions of Mexico with tailored programs for each unique group.
“Fiesta Poblana”: an annual event with spectacular dances from the state of Puebla, Mexico homeland of the Battle of Cinco de Mayo and a historical overview with a Chicken Mole dinner.
“The Night Sky”, A Revolutionary Rebozo is an ancestral weaving of a family’s journey from ancient times through the Mexican Revolution to the present. A multi-media dance theatre event for all generations that tells the story of the heirloom rebozo “The Night Sky” as it weaves its way through history with dance, music and drama. Dia de los Muertos meets the Mexican Revolution meets Turkeyday.
The BFADTC offers “Cuadros” choreographed by Viviana from the regions of Jalisco, Puebla, Nayarit, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Sinaloa, San Luis Potosi, Tabasco, Chiapas, Yucatan, Nuevo Leon, Baja California, Chihuahua, Campeche, Guerrero, Michoacan and more.
Viviana also offers Danza Azteca with Danza Coyolxauhqui at public and private ceremonies, rituals, sacred ofrendas and blessings. She is often called upon by those with sacred knowledge as a guardian to care-take the very essence of dance and culture.
The Ballet Folklorico en Aztlan also performs at various civic and community events, as well as weddings and private parties.

Viviana Enrique Acosta, Artistic Director of the BFADTC has over forty years of experience as a curator, arts administrator, choreographer, performance artist, dance theatre director, playwright, instructor and culture bearer. She has a background in modern, interpretive and ethnic dance and specializes in Mexican folk dance. She is Capitana de los Voladores, Capitana de Danza Coyolxauhqui, and was the lead dancer for the Two Spirit Wymins Lakota Sundance. Maestra Viviana directs and manages the Dance/Theater Company the Ballet Folklórico en Aztlán, whose members are skilled dance professionals who teach, perform, lecture and create costumes.Viviana has the distinction as being one of the youngest California Arts Council Artists in Residence – Artists in Communities awardees for her work in dance.
