Monthly mean temperatures range from 13.4 °C (56.1 °F) in January to 28.4 °C (83.1 °F) in July, for an annual average of 22 °C (71.6 °F). There are significant temperature differences in the prefecture, as elevation is generally low in the east but high in the west, on the eastern fringes of the Yungui Plateau. The western parts of the prefecture, with an average elevation surpassing 500 metres, hold a climate similar to that of Central Yunnan, namely one with both low variations in seasonal temperature and low summer temperatures.
