Students

BRAC University began in 2001 with fewer than 100 students. Now, it has grown to more than 3,700. The university student population includes foreign students from Japan, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, the Netherlands, Canada and USA.

Library

The BRAC University library — the Ayesha Abed Library — has more than 35,000 books, a collection of print journals and other publications, and subscriptions to international academic journals. The library has two branches: one at Mohakhali Campus and another at Savar Campus.

Student activities

BRAC University has a growing extracurricular environment through its number of clubs and forums; there are 30 clubs and forums in the university. BRAC University’s mission is to achieve excellence in all-around education. The components of all-around education, i.e., learning, development and identity formation are interactive and add to each other. The students can experience all of these by participating in co curricular activities along with regular studies. The Student Affairs Office (SAO) provides full support in this respect.

Organizational structure

The Honorable President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh is the chancellor of BRAC University. The Board of Trustees is the highest policy-making body of BRAC University and is responsible for ensuring the highest level of education and administrative standard at BRAC University.

Committees assist the Board in matters essential to the smooth functioning of the university: Syndicate, Academic Council, Course Committee, Finance Committee, Selection Committee, Audit Committee, Committee on Student Affairs, Disciplinary Committee, Committee on University Development and Committee on Medical Facilities. The vice chancellor is the chief executive and academic officer of the university. The academic wing consists of the deans of faculties/schools, chairpersons of the departments and faculty members.

The director of research is responsible for research, advisory services and publications. The director of student affairs co-ordinates and supports all extracurricular activities. The librarian who is assisted by a deputy librarian and assistant librarians head the university library. The registrar with deputy registrar, assistant registrar and officers are responsible for day-to-day administration, human resource management, technological services and records.

BRACU Chondrobot

For the first time ever in history, a Bangladeshi team is going to compete at a NASA robotics competition. The BRACU ChondroBot team has been invited by NASA to compete at the on-site world finals of the prestigious NASA Lunabotics Mining Competition (LMC) 2011. The competition is going to take place at the NASA Kennedy Space Center, Florida from May 23 to 28, 2011. We inaugurated our ChondroBot in 15 May, 2011 and demonstrated in front of Chief Guest Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, KCMG, Prof. Ainun Nishat and many other respected guest.

BRAC University turns 10

On 25th June 2011, BRAC University celebrated its 10th anniversary at its main campus in Mohakhali.

The master of ceremonies of the event Prof. Mumit Khan asked Prof. Zainab Faruqui Ali, the Director of Student Affairs, BRAC University to give her welcome address on this occasion. The Chief Guest of the programme and the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of BRAC University Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, KCMG mentioned how the university has been playing a big role in higher education of Bangladesh.

Special Guest Prof. Jamilur Reza Choudhury, the first Vice Chancellor of the university, shared his experience. Prof. Ainun Nishat, the present Vice Chancellor of the university emphasized how BRAC University faculty members and students are concentrating on research. He mentioned that the university has expanded over the years to have four schools, seven departments and three institutes, one centre at present. It is planning to open a new department of History and Department of Media and Journalism by the next year as well.

A few BRAC university students shared their success stories with the audience while some others performed songs and dances. Among the other guests Mr. Faruq Ahmed Choudhury shared his experience of being one of the advisors of BRAC University in its initial years.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University. Afterwards, the program-plaque with the inscription "BRAC University 10 Years" was unveiled by Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, KCMG, Prof. Ainun Nishat and Prof. Jamilur Reza. The program ended with cutting of a cake to celebrate the birthday of the university.

BRAC University 10 Years Celebration!!!

BRAC University, one of the leading private universities in the country, celebrated its 10th founding anniversary amid much fanfare and enthusiasm on the Moha-khali campus in the commercial area of the city on Saturday 23 july, 2011, says a press release.

Prof. Ainun Nishat, vice chancellor of the university, was present as the chief guest in the ceremony.

The students held various programmes to celebrate the day. They staged a drama and organised stand-up comedy, magic show, snake charming and darts. They also took out a colourful procession on the campus.

Popular band Warfaze roc-ked the floor with their popular music. The joyful festival ended with the fireworks display.
