In 1997 she started her solo singing career. The first time she appeared on stage was in 1997 under her stage name Donna Ares to compete with her song in the Croatian Dora competition in order to represent Croatia in the Eurovision Song Contest
. In the same year, Kolaković gained success with her song "Kazna" ("Punishment") in her hometown Bihać. Since then she produced songs like, "Ubila me tvoja nevjera" ("Your infidelity killed me") or "Idi Idi Moja Vilo" (Go on my fairy.) She is known to sing other songs like "Noćas mi srce pati" ("Tonight my heart hurts" by Silvana Armenulić

After 10 years of her career, she returned to her hometown where she had her own concert. Her biggest hit to date is "To mi nije trebalo" (I Didn't Need This).
