Azim Tyabji was a noted Muslim scholar and reformer. He was also the son of Hussein Tyabji, and grandson of Justice Badruddin Tyabji, who was one of the founders and presidents of the Indian National Congress

. He had worked in several administrative positions in the country. He started the Muslim Education Society (MES) in 1936 AD, which has established the first Muslim High School and MES Girls High School, in 1946 AD. MES went on to establish 14 schools in different parts of the city.

Tyabji was also the former president of the Sulaymani Co-operative Bank and pioneer of the Urdu Academy in Vadodra. Like his grandfather, Badruddin Tyabji, Azim Tyabji was instrumental in the launch of the Muslim Education Society in Vadodra. Thousands of Muslim children have received their education at MES.
