line. It was built by Southern Railway on 1 July 1928 to cater for the considerable increase in passenger traffic brought about by the development of the Kent coal
field. The main modern buildings are on the London bound side of the station.

There is also one service to London Bridge
and London Cannon Street
once every weekday morning at 06:04. During some engineering works trains are also diverted to London Cannon Street (it used to be Blackfriars but due to the Thameslink Programme
it now goes to Cannon Street instead). The Last Direct Train to London Victoria is at 21:20 but there are more with one change, the last train to Faversham is at 23:20, and the last train to Dover Priory is 00:07.
