Station history

Ashigara Station began as the Ashigara Signal Station(足柄信号所) on January 20, 1903. It was upgraded to the Ashigara Signal Ground(足柄信号場) of April 1, 1922 and moved to its present location as Ashigara Station on September 15, 1947.

Regularly scheduled freight service was discontinued on February 1, 1971. Operational control of the station was transferred to JR Central following privatization

 of JNR on April 1, 1987.
