History

Ascension Health was created on November 1, 1999 by the union of the Daughters of Charity National Health System based in St. Louis, Missouri and the Sisters of St. Joseph Health System based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. In December 2002, Carondelet Health System based in Kansas City, Missouri merged with Ascension Health.

Facilities

Ascension Health operates more than 500 locations in 20 states and the District of Columbia. In Fiscal Year 2009, Ascension Health managed a total of 17,928 available beds, 70 general acute care hospitals, 2 long-term acute care hospitals, 3 rehabilitation hospitals, and 4 psychiatric hospitals.
