Both dishes share the use of a seasoned ground beef as their main ingredient. The ground beef is prepared with cooked onions, chopped boiled egg, raisins and olives.

Arroz tapado is made by tightly packing rice and the seasoned ground beef into a bowl. The bowl is then turned over onto a plate and removed so that only the ingredients remain.
