Reconstruction

In 2006 work started on rebuilding the whole station area. In October of that year, a temporary station entrance opened, that could only be reached by three sets of stairs (or by elevators). On July 2, 2011, the new tunnel under the platforms was opened and the temporary entrance was closed down and dismantled. A new platform north of the three existing platforms, and a footbridge connecting the platforms, was opened in the summer of 2011.

In the Summer of 2011 a new dive under was opened west of the station which allows trains to Nijmegen and Utrecht to cross all the lines without having to wait for each other. This resulted in a complete suspension of all train traffic to the west of the station during some weeks in the Summer of 2011. The dive under opened on 29 August 2011.

When all the works in and around Arnhem station have come to an end, the station will be renamed Arnhem Centraal.
