Anthony Adams was one of six Republican legislators to approve the 2009 budget that includes tax increases despite having previously signed an anti-tax pledge. On his vote, Adams stated, "I dare with the full knowledge that this will probably be the end of a political career for me, but the fact of the matter is California is in a place where they need people who are willing to sacrifice their own personal agenda for what's right." Adams chose not to run for reelection in 2010, and was appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
to a post on the state parole board in December 2010.
