Anderson returned to Everton on 22 September after Barnsley had beaten Southampton 3–2. Following his return to Merseyside, Barnsley made enquiries to take him to Oakwell again on another loan deal. Barnsley were granted permission to take Anderson on another month's loan, and he signed for Barnsley on a permanent basis for an undisclosed fee on 31 January 2008.
