Amy Newman is an American
poet, critic, and professor. She is the author of four collections of poems, most recently fall (Wesleyan University Press
). Newman's second book, Camera Lyrica, won the Beatrice Hawley Award
, and her first book, Order, or Disorder, received the Cleveland State University Poetry Center Prize in 1995. Newman's newest collection, Dear Editor, will be released in January 2012 from Persea Books (New York). She has received fellowships in poetry from the MacDowell Colony

Newman was named as the new poetry critic at the Chicago Sun-Times
in October 2006, and in the same month, served as online Poet-in-Residence for the British newspaper, The Guardian, based in London. She has published articles on poets Agha Shahid Ali, W. S. Merwin, Jean Valentine, Adrienne Rich and Theodore Roethke. She is a Presidential Research Professor at Northern Illinois University
, and holds a Ph.D. in English Literature and Language from Ohio University
