, is an independent, coeducational day school which offers an educational program from prekindergarten (Early Childhood Education) through grade 12. The school was founded in 1952. Its motto is Enter to Learn, Leave to Serve.

Admission and demographics

Admission is guaranteed for US residents in Delhi, provided the applicant meets the school's eligibility criteria. Eligibility in all other cases is limited to children whose parents or legal guardian

s hold a foreign passport, are temporarily resident in India and based in New Delhi. The American Embassy School does not admit Indian students. 39 percent of the school's 1380 students in Pre-School to Grade 12 are Americans, the majority of students represent 53 nationalities. The school director is Dr. Bob Hetzel.

At the beginning of the 2005-2006 school year, enrollment was 1,142 (PK-grade 5: 581; grades 6-8: 266; and grades 9-12: 295) and there were 122 full-time and 24 part-time faculty members

Organization

The school is governed by a 11-member Board of Governors, elected for 2-year terms by the American Embassy School Association of New Delhi, the sponsor of the School. This group also aims to ensure that the school remains a part of the local community.

Curriculum

The curriculum is that of general academic, college-preparatory public schools. The school's testing program includes the College Board and American College Testing tests. Instruction is in English

Facilities

The school includes two libraries, one swimming pool (plus a diving pool and toddler pool), a physical education center, computer labs, playgrounds, tennis courts, soccer pitches, and a performing arts center (including a full sized auditorium). The school campus is spread over almost 13 acres.

The American Embassy School used to be part of The South Asian Inter-Scholastic Association (SAISA

) in which they were largely successful and won over 40 first place trophies in the past.
