In 1945, the constituency was redistributed, as its electorate exceeded 100,000 and was officially deemed overlarge. The Boundary Commission for England was instructed by Parliament to divide the larger seats (which sometimes affected neighbouring constituencies). This was an interim measure before the Boundary Commission reviewed the whole country later in the decade in the first general review. In the case of the Altrincham area two seats, this one and Knutsford
