According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics
(PCBS), al-Lubban ash-Sharqiya had a population of 2,500 inhabitants in mid-year 2006. The population is primarily made up of two clans, the Dharaghma and Awaysa. Currently, the village's unemployment rate is about 51%.

Under the name Lubban as-Sawi, the village appeared in 1596 Ottoman tax registers as being in the Nahiya of Jabal Qubal of the Liwa
of Nablus. It had a population of 85 Muslim households. It paid taxes on wheat, barley, summercrops, olives, and goats or beehives.
