The college opened in 1999 and is built on an 18 hectares (44.5 acre) site.

Structure

The college is divided into five smaller "schools":

• Preparatory School: Grade Prep to Year 2: Fairview
• Junior School: Year 3 to Year 5: Cumberland
• Middle School: Year 6 and Year 7: Dunhelen
• Lower Secondary School: Year 8 and Year 9: Glenarthur
• Senior School: Year 10 to Year 12: Brookhill

House system

The school is divided into four houses:

• Cameron (green)
• Clarke (gold)
• Millar (red, previously white)

Courses of Study

Students choose electives through a web preferences database. In Year 8 and 9 a student is assigned two electives each semester. In Year 8, students are given one period a week (or two periods per fortnight) for their electives. More time is given in further years.

Facilities

Art rooms, science laboratories, computer laboratories, technology facilities, music rooms, a library and a gymnasium as well as a new performing arts centre.

Results

The median study score for Aitken College is 30. According to an Education Department website called, "My Schools," students at Aitken College, on average, perform better than other schools in Victoria. These results were obtained via the NAPLAN Test.
