Traditional professions
W. Francis writes about Agamudayars that they are "a cultivating caste found in all the Tamil districts'. However, most Agamudayars are found in olden Madurai, Thanjavur and Tirunelveli districts." Agamudayars are the most brahminised of the Mukkulathor community. Agamudayar also signifies the meaning of a particular profession, emperor's personal body guard or trusted servants (ie mercenaries) in the palace of a Tamil ruler whose office it was to attend to the business in the Interior's of the King's Palace or in the Pagoda".Distribution and population
Agamudayaars have a population of more than 10 million, distributed in the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka. Also they had settled in the countries of Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar.
