The Abortion Law Reform Association of New Zealand (ALRANZ) is New Zealand
's national pro-choice
advocacy group
. It has existed since 1971. One of its early members was family planning doctor and pediatrician, Dr. Alice Bush
(1914-1974). For most of the last thirty years, its President has been Dr. Margaret Sparrow, a Wellington gynecologist, who also had long-standing involvement with the Family Planning Association of New Zealand until her recent retirement. In March 2011, Dr Sparrow relinquished the presidency to Dr Morgan Healey.
ALRANZ supports total decriminalisation of abortion in New Zealand
. The organisation is based in Wellington, puts out a quarterly newsletter, and has its own website.
ALRANZ is currently supporting Labour Party
