 which was held by SNP First Minister Alex Salmond, Mr Salmond continues to sit as member for this seat. He won it for the first time in the 2011 election with a landslide majority over all the other candidates, the nearest opposition coming from the Liberal Democrat candidate Alison McInnes, with the Conservatives finishing third. Aberdeenshire's three other new constituencies were also SNP gains.
