 is attested to by the fact that his death was announced (in an Internet statement on 23 June 2005) by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi

He got and still gets high billing at the Tawhed Sunni terrorist webset (which was named for Zarqawi's group under its original name Jama'at al-Tawhid wal-Jihad) operated by the organization of Zarqawi's former mentor Maqdisi

, Iraq (near Syria) around 21 June 2005, but it is possible that he was killed a month earlier in the Battle of Al Qaim, or even killed by someone in al-Qaeda. From his videos it is apparent that he was rather unstable.
