High school career
In 2008, under the combined leadership of Murray and Phillip Ely (a sophomore who came in for a stretch of 7 games when Murray was injured), The Plant High Panthers won 14 games in a row after a close opening day loss. Despite the Georgia Bulldogs' disappointing 2010 season (6-7), Murray's performance was outstanding. In the regular season, Murray had a completion percentage of 61.8% and threw for 2,851 yards, 24 touchdowns and only 8 interceptions. He also had a quarterback rating of 162.72. Aaron Murray finished starting 13 games completing 209-of-342 passes for a UGA freshman record 3,049 yards (second in SEC history by a freshman) and 24 TDs with eight Interceptions; Also rushed 87 times for 167 yards and four TDs. Murray is ranked 1st in UGA history for a freshman with 3,216 total offensive yards, which also ranked second in SEC history. He is tied for 1st in UGA history for total touchdown with (D.J. Shockley, 2005) in a season with 28 (24 passing, 4 rushing); 24 TD passes ranked tied 2nd in UGA history for a single season.- Passing efficiency of 154.48 ranked 14th nationally and fourth in the SEC; also held SEC rankings of third in passing avg. per game (234.5), and fourth in total offense (247.4). He had a career-high 3 touchdown passes and 313 yards in the 34–31 overtime loss against Florida.
