AB-001 or 1-pentyl-3-indole is a designer drug
Designer drug
Designer drug is a term used to describe drugs that are created to get around existing drug laws, usually by preparing analogs or derivatives of existing drugs by modifying their chemical structure to varying degrees, or less commonly by finding drugs with entirely different chemical structures...

which was found as an ingredient in synthetic cannabis smoking blends in Ireland in 2010 and Hungary in 2011. It is unclear who AB-001 was originally developed by, and no information has been published on its receptor binding or pharmacological profile, but it is structurally related to compounds such as AM-1248

AM-1248 is a drug which acts as a moderately potent agonist for both the cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2, but with some dispute between sources over its exact potency and selectivity...

and its corresponding 1-(tetrahydropyran-4-ylmethyl) analogue, which are known to be potent cannabinoid agonists with moderate to high selectivity for CB2 over CB1.
