Prior to the 2009 Cup Final, Vorskla and Shakhtar had met 6 times in previous Ukrainian Cup competitions. Vorskla has never defeated Shakhtar with the best performance a 1–1 draw in the 2nd leg of the quarter finals in the 2007–2008 rendition. Shakhtar's best performance against Vorskla was in a 2nd round encounter in the 1994–1995 edition with a 8–0 drubbing.
