had lost five games in a row before this game.

A victory would have assured the Chiefs of their third straight playoff berth and given them complete control over the AFC West race. Instead, they had to rely on other teams' losses.

The Giants scored on five consecutive possessions form the end of the first quarter through the middle of the third quarter to lead at one point, 35–7. Kansas City, which had come from behind in previous games during the season, had dug a hole they couldn't get out of this time. The Giants ran up 348 yards of total offense and controlled the ball for almost 35 minutes.

With the season and a playoff berth on the line, the Chiefs rise to the occasion and bury the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead, 42–20 on December 27. The Chiefs finished at 10–6 and earned a playoff berth.
