 in early October. The storm went out to sea, reaching major hurricane strength east of Bermuda

. That island experienced an entire day of gale force winds with gusts reaching hurricane force, but damage was apparently minimal. The steamer Campania was reported to have been struck by a large rogue wave but the extent of the damage was not explicitly mentioned, though the wave was described as "disastrous."

 on October 9. Winds by that time had weakened to just 45 mph and most of those winds were vented over empty marsh. The remnants of this storm did bring heavy rains to the eastern United States and the Canadian Maritimes.
