Would it be viable to grow flax in this day and age on land that was once a Flax farm in Ireland, as some land has come up for sale that was once a flax farm there are 20 acres in the sale Ronnie

I understand flax to be a very robust plant that tolerates a lot of harsh conditions rangeing from droughts to floods etc. If flax once grew there before then there should be no reason why it would'nt grow there again. It's obvious that this land you speak of has the correct conditions & land for a flax farm if what you are talking about is to grow flax on this land but of cause only further research could confirm this. I find myself in the same predicament as you but I speak of my homeland in New Zealand were flax once grew abundantly anywhere & everywhere even my grandparents backyards but more commonly alongside waterways, but land developement over the years has made flax finding a rareity now a days. The postives that this plant brings to the environment along with its traditional uses that my Maori people of old used this plant for, is definitely worth reintroducing this magnificent plant again. I wish you much success in your venture if what you are doing is what I think you are doing, all the best. Cameo
