Was Jack Lord just shy around women, or was he gay or bi-sexual? I know he had a short marriage, and a very long one to Marie that lasted until his death. Please dispel these ugly rumors of him not being straight. Thanks.

I sent a reply by way of absoluteastronomy.com but let me give you a short synopsis of what I feel and why. First, I did not refer to a homosexual as being "ugly". What I said was, if this is an untrue rumor, then a man's character was unfairly besmirched--that is what is ugly Bumblybee. The same would be said if there were rumors of his cheating on Marie when he did not. Get it?? Now, no one will probably ever know for certainty if Mr. Lord was indeed "gay" and you are right in that I still adored him for his acting and many hours of entertainment pleasure--this will never change. A few points though. This Ann Willard was documented several times with her diplomat father from Argentina (he did have 3 daughters, I found the man's info). It was about the same time as Mr. Lord's marriage to her. Also, why go to the length of documenting a child's death (as in Mr. Lord receiving his son's death certificate and only seeing him once). Why go through all of that when it was NOT necessary as just like in the case of Raymond Burr who it was proven was GAY, only said his son had died. There was no theatrics of sending a death certificate, etc. as was the case for Mr. Lord. Get my point? Why create more when you don't have to-all the "media" had to say was, "Mr. Lord's son died at an early age. Also, there was documentation of Mr. Lord purchasing or beginning to, a house on the Chesapeake Bay for his new wife which never came to pass. I've gotten replies from many who say this rumor was Not true and that he was Straight as an arrow. Also, as in Burr's and many others' case, it all comes out eventually--Not so in Mr. Lord's. Why? He had no family left to perhaps be embarassed. One more thing, Mr. Lord was not liked in some circles (at best he was termed difficult and egotistical, and at worst he was a sometimes cruel taskmaster. If, as you say, his gayness was common knowledge, you would think that by this time, some proof instead of just rumors would have surfaced. James MacArthur and others who purportedly knew him best, often talked about his loving relationship with Marie (meat and potatoes, etc.)An ugly rumor also started about Mr. Lord liking very young boys (teens) which I don't believe, but if true, is criminal. Again, very hard to keep quiet. Is there anyone who actually was a lover and did come forward? At least there would be a name to stand up to the accusation. Finally, Mr. Lord spoke lovingly of God and values (Mike Douglas show), I find it difficult to believe that someone so religious would live a lie. Anyway, thanks for the input and if there is anything else you want to share about Mr. Lord, please respond.

My my do we sound testy. No, what I and many others are, are folks who will do everything they can to nail folks who take delight in spreading UNFOUNDED, UNSUBSTANTIATED ugly rumors on a man and his wife, who because of death, can no longer defend themselves. When alive, they put these folks on notice to "either put up or shut up". For those who are brain dead, this means, "litigation and plenty of it". Ever hear of defamation? Quite frankly, the only surprise comes from wondering why those who would describe themselves to be "fans" of this wonderful man, would then go on to spread this filth about him and his wife. True, we are all entitled to our own opinions, but what we are NOT entitled to my dear snapperplainfield, is to pass off rumors as even half way facts. Now, Mr. Lord was no saint (he would admit that), but the "gay" and liking little boys" accusations have got to stop. Got It???

Perhaps you should get a life as you're answering these discussions. I didn't even send anything to you. I'm retired (after working for 40 years). What's your excuse? They say the world is filled with nitwits and jealous folks. You have proven them right. As to litigation, perhaps you don't know this (but please comprehend), there are folks who are still looking out for Mr. Lord's good name and we would like to nail cockroaches like you to the wall. Perhaps you don't care about your character (that's obvious), but leave this man and his wife to rest in peace. P.S. Some last words to pontificate on: WHAT IF THESE WERE YOUR LONG DEAD PARENTS THAT SOME COCKROACH WANTED TO GET THEIR JOLLIES FROM BY SPREADING UNFOUNDED MALICIOUS RUMORS ABOUT. HOW WOULD YOU FEEL THEN?

Snapperfield has got a problem, big time. However, in reply to yours, yes it is ridiculous as Lord has been dead for nearly 14 years, however let's all remember that these discussions are supposed to be from FANS of this late, generous and talented man. What kind of a fan would delight in telling tales (things that can't be proven)on a man that only seek to diminish his character??? I'd like Snapperfield and everyone of you to really think about that. REMEMBER YOUR MOMMYS AND DADDYS AND THE OLD ADAGE: IF YOU CAN'T SAY ANYTHING NICE ABOUT SOMEONE, DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL. That goes double if you can't prove it.

It's true what you say. However, the fact that you are saying that Jack and Simone Griffeth were an 'item' implies that our Jack is guilty of adultery and that's not a very nice thing to say especially since it was never proven. Adultery is still immoral and illegal and it's an awful thing to say about him just because of a rumor that cannnot be verified.

First, adultery is immoral (true), but it stopped being illegal a century ago. As far as Jack and Simone are concerned, did it ever occur to you and others that Marie, being 15 years older than Jack and at the time that he met Simone, he was 55; that meant Marie was 70. Now I may not be an expert in these intimate details, but perhaps Marie gave permission to Jack for these "intimate encounters" as she could no longer fulfill that part of a marriage. Jack, loving her as he did, would never think about leaving her but still had "needs". Now, I'm not saying it's right (I agree with you), but that's what I meant when I said, he was NOT perfect, no one is. The older you get Ms. Bumbleebee, you will realize that many couples have long marriages because they really do love one another, but that doesn't mean the husband or the wife (especially when one is quite a bit older), couldn't have worked out something that both could live with. Remember what Marie said about Jack when asked why she was such a devoted wife--she said, "many wives do as much for their husbands, the difference is that Jack appreciates it". Perhaps she meant that unlike many men who would flaunt affairs, or try to hide them from their wives, and end up even divorcing, Jack treated Marie with gentleness and admiration. This might be why they arrived at this most private decision together.

I agree with everything you're saying-for the most part. What I have an issue with is that the 'affair' has not been proven so it ends up being another ugly rumor like Jack being gay. So why even write about it? It's no different than discussing Jack's sexuality or his temper on the set or anything else. That's all we're doing-discussing and trying to come to grips with the life of our favorite actor! BTW adultery is still illegal in many states.

First, I think you mean adultery is still illegal in many Countries, NOT states. There are only 50 states and in each of them, adultery is NOT illegal. Immoral, but not illegal. As for the affair, I can only deduce from Ms. Griffith's comments that he was All Man. True, don't know what that means for certain, but most would agree it has something to do with some kind of intimacy. But, yes you are more accurate as unless the lady comes right out and says it, I will re-evaluate and just say, "I choose to believe, (based on Ms. Griffith) that Jack was NOT gay. As to an adulterer, you are right, not one hundred per cent certain, so I choose to believe that he may have enjoyed a lot of flirting, but drew the line at the actual act. Is that better? I know that Ms. Griffith is NOT going to release anything more and it's been years. He's gone, his wife is as well so let sleeping dogs lie as the old adage says.

I do not mean countries, I mean STATES. Adultery is still illegal in many states. Look it up! It's obviously not prosecuted much anymore and they are old laws but laws nonetheless.

Like I said earlier it really doesn't matter what Jack did in his personal life because he and Marie are both dead and don't know what people are saying or thinking. And NO ONE knows what Jack did or did not do. I'm sure Jack did a lot of flirting-who hasn't? But sex? No one will ever know for sure. I've heard other actresses say Jack was "all man" just like Griffeth said. It's kind of a non-committal statement, don't you think? It could mean lots of things.

First, I was coming from the "legality" part from a "cop's perspective", having worked for the police dept. as long as I did. (Not sworn, but administrative-from Deputy Commissioners to Sergeants (worked with them all). Many acts are on "the books" so to speak, i.e. cursing in public, spitting at pigs, etc. Adultery, while almost all would agree is morally wrong, certainly is NOT illegal in the sense that one is prosecuted for it (as in the bygone days). The fact that these laws are still on the few books they are, is testimony to either bigger problems those few states have, or just plain neglect in taking them off. Hope this settles it. As to Jack, that's true, but what Ms. Griffith said, in conjunction with ACTUALLY being in his trailer for hours during the duration of the episode (and a few more) when she WASN'T in the episode, well you can form your own opinion. However, the curious question is: Why find it easier to believe Jack was Gay, but not when it came to adultery especially when he was 15 years Younger then Marie and again, men have always had urges that they attended in some fashion, but when we get a certain age (as Marie was 70 or in that range), no it is not out of the realm to think of this being the arrangement. I hope you see my point Ms. Bumbleebee. Again, you are right though in that no one will ever know for certain what these two lovely people actually did. I was simply going by things and situations that CAN be proven and linking them together to arrive at what was more probable. That's all. P.S. being dead doesn't negate the awful fact that some folks who call themselves fans would rather deal in unfounded character assasination. P.P.S. Don't know if you are a religious person, but in the bible there are instances where men whose wives were beyond child bearing years actually took younger women to bed to sire a child. Yet, God forgave. For many, adultery is wrong no matter the reason. I happen to be one of them who feels this way, but I Never felt Jack or Marie were saints. Just good people who did apparently love each other enough to go through nearly 50 years of life together. In anyone's book, that is amazing.

Sorry it took so long to give you the name of the person who got the "facts" on Jack Lord. He separated "Confirmed, from "Unconfirmed" trivia. His name is David Marc. His info can be found on: www.jacklord.eu/ You then go to #3 Jack Lord Bio. He is the only one that identified Mr. Lord's father as a New York City Policeman (confirmed). He also identified Mr. Lord's First Wife: Ann Willard (confirmed) and the death of his son (confirmed). Mr. Marc specifically stated that he would identify those items that can be confirmed and those that could not. Hope this puts your mind at ease with those UNTRUE, or UNCONFIRMED rumors of his being gay. Mr. Marc could not verify ONE instance where this is correct.

It is gross and again, I've read where Chicken Little is coming back to say 'the sky is falling". Also, if you believe the print of most movie stars, (they were all gay or at least 90% which is ridiculous). Again, saying something isn't proof. Never has been, never will be. These bloggers who say this about Jack are, for the most part, knuckleheads and really very sad people who get their kicks from pulling folks down to their level. Case in point-the football player Tim Teabow--now I don't watch football, but he's on the news and many in the media make fun of him, or can't stand him. Why? because at the start of every game he gets down on one knee and Prays to God. Yep, because the man has the audacity to Pray to God publicly, he is held up to ridicule. I see a lot of that in what is being done to Jack Lord. He and Marie were married for nearly 50 years, he wasn't ashamed of believing in the Lord and saying it. I really do think the some folks can't stand that because they have so much misery in their own lives (most of it their own making). Until and unless one of these freaks comes up with Proof (and I seriously doubt they will), I go with the facts, and the facts say that Jack was a devoted, Christian, (probably shy) and didn't tolerate lazy, cheaters of any sex.

If I may say one more thing-if anyone were to believe this garbage, then they would have to explain how a man who worked 16 hour days 6 days a week, and according to some other garbage out there, had a boat where he and his "male companion" would sail the sea. then there is another gross one about Jack taking trips to Singapore for these "gay outings". Now let me ask a sane question-How in the world can any human being be in so many places from restooms, to boats, to Singapore and working 16hrs. 6 days a week. Jack would have been dead Long Before reaching the age of 77 years.

Where did you get the story Jack "had a boat where he and his "male companion" would sail the sea"? I told you I heard Jack spent a lot of time on his boat and that's because he LOVED his boat, not that he was traveling with a male companion on it . So who told you THAT story? I've never heard that one! As far as Singapore goes, it is well-known fact that Jack and Marie liked traveling to Singapore so evidently he spent at least some free time there. Supposedly, that was one of the earlier gossip garbage floating around. LaRue sent me the stuff about "cruising restrooms" which is ridiculous. That's why I sent you my response and since you were writing about not being able to 'find" anything on Jack's first wife Anne or his son, I sent you what I feel is documented proof that in fact, his first wife and son did exist. This is also what I meant about Jack being too smart to "invent a first wife or son" when he knew that the more someone "invents something' the easier it is to "question and disprove' something. That's how I know that Jack was NOT telling lies, he did in fact have a first wife (short marriage of 3 years) and a son who died. Now, on the geanology hook up, there is most certainly documentation that back this up. Anne Willard, his son Jack Jr. all exist. There are many bloggers who apparently, intercept these messages and send this kind of garbage as they like to stir up trouble. P.s. LaRue also finds this garbage ridiculous, and if you notice, most are always signed, "anonymous".

To Bumbleebee: Once again you said there was no proof of Jack's first wife and son. Well, on geanology THERE IS. Yes, you have to pay for the specifics, but there is indeed a woman whose birth, marriage, childbirth info, and death is recorded. Her name is: Anne Willard Ryan. Her husband's name is recorded as: Jack Joseph Patrick Ryan, son is recorded as: John Ryan Jr. Date of marriage is: 1944, date of divorce is: 1947. There's more, but again, you have to pay to see it. I believe this is once and for all--Definitive Proof that Jack did indeed have a first wife (ex) and a child that died. There is No definitive proof that he Ever cruised restrooms or that he was gay. Therefore a thinking person has to presume he was Straight.

Hi LaRue. This is Josie. I never said you were the one who started this ugly rumor about Jack and cruising restrooms, what I e-mailed Bumbleebee was this latest ugly rumor by "unsubstantiated/anonymous". But aren't they all like that? What is true is that Jack did indeed have an ex-wife and son who died. This is documented as it is on geanology and you have to Pay to get the specifics. All this other stuff is always written by Anonymous--the first clue that it is garbage as only folks who start these kinds of rumors hide behind their trashiness with "anonymous" or unsubstantiated.

For Bumbleebee: As for proof, I sent you the geanology documents that are on line. Yes, you have to pay (quite a bit), to see more specifics, but I would say that having a woman by the name of Anne Willard that records show married a man by the name of John Joseph Patrick Ryan in 1944 and divorced him in 1947, bore him a son named Jack Jr. and the son and Anne died within 5 years of each other--that is too much of a coincidence to be anything other than Jack Lord's partial bio. It includes his birthdate of 12/30/1920. So you tell me, who has More proof? The Family tree of geanology or some "anonymous sources" who again are filthy people to label Jack as gay.

Hi LaRue: this is Josie Abbott, I am with you 100 percent. It is bumblebee that is making the waves in all of this. I agree with you on Wikipedia, and that it should be sufficient for Bumblee and others. But unfortunately it is not. They would rather partially believe the untruths about Jack being gay on NO FACTS at all, but discount Wikapedia and the Geanology and Family Tree History which Proves that Jack Lord had an ex-wife and son, both later died. That is documented on the Family Tree History (which the public has to pay for to get the specs). I hope this clears up the matter once and for all. From my perspective LaRue, and I am Josie, not bumblebee. I do correspond with her/him (as I really don't know who that person is. Bumblebee sounded nice, but then goes on about how she needs "proof' on Jack's ex wife and son because she doubts it. Well, the proof is there if she cares to pay to see it. Enough is free so that you can get the fact on Anne Willard (yes, she is listed as an ex-wife to John Joseph Patrick Ryan AKA Jack Lord, and yes, his son's birth is also listed.)

Have a nice day.

Yes, he was married once and that was documented, however there was Never any proof by anyone (Wikepedia, or geanology or the Family Tree location. There are writings of Jack Lord's first wife Anne (complete with birth, marriage and death certificate info). Nothing like this ever existed with Raymond Burr. It was essentially his word that he had a son. Now do you understand?
