Magic tricks are where at a small scale normal laws of physics get disobeyed. I saw Friday night at First Fridays at the Saint Louis Science Center a magician levitate a small magnet. I showed him how van der waals bonds allows anybody to lift a quarter up and and by turning my hand, take it with just one finger pressed to it firmly, the quarter more massive than his magnet. Converting van der waals bonds use to bigger and better stage magic levitation, is what every magician wants to do.
