More than likely your statement exceeds my limited and primitive comprehensive abilities. When you say something is as old as the universe, I am at a loss. In my mind the universe is space and space has no beginning and no end. But the other side of the coin is that every particle of every matter in the universe has existed in one form or another forever and in perpetuity. Just as fire creates energy from combustible matter, that matter did not disappear, it was converted into something else. Some day billions of years from now the sun will die and explode and everything in this planetary system will be vaporized and be converted into the space dust that created us in the first place. But all of what you have said and all of what I have said does not address the question: is time travel possible?

Saying that let me further explain that I do not blindly believe many of the scientific worlds explanations of why things are the way they are. I believe sometimes they are credited with kudos because no one has been able to prove or disprove their theories or formulas. I love analogies and I am referring to the old AF airplane the C-124. Common gossip was that on paper it would have been impossible to fly. But then again the same has been said about the bumblebee. The obvious question is why did they build it in the first place if they didn't believe it would fly. But it did fly for many years and served the AF well. This is not a court of law where you have the right to presume innocence unless proven guilty. And even then a verdict of guilt is not impervious to error since it depends on the human factors of evidence interpreted by attorneys, judges and juries. A lot of people believe that the abilities of technology can conquer physics, I don't. I also believe the human mind will never evolve to a point that it will either.

This is interesting because esoterically if we consider consciousness instead of the thought action of the intellect it may be instantaneous. It is possible to be conscious of my finger and toe at the same time because it is connected as one. Like the movie 'Contact' she experienced a journey that to the outside observer was instantaneous. Also like in the movie nobody believed her.

Over a decade earlier I had an experience in meditation that was similar to many things in the movie that led me to ponder if Carl Sagan, who wrote the movie, had an experience like mine. Ha ha ha! Just being funny. I don't understand the theory relativity myself! I just thought I would throw out an overused line in a forum where some people may "get" my joke.

The main problem with discussing something like time or anything else is that the brain or intellect can not be in the here and now; the present. The mind is like a computer in that it is programmed and has memory and it can calculate a future scenario. The mind creates the dualities and divides everything it perceives. It divides things like hot and cold. There is not line on a thermometer for to hot or to cold it is just one connected thing; temperature. Hot and cold may have some practical use in the physical world but it is still an illusion in that it is perceived as 2 things; hot and cold. But like it has been stated many times if the original premise is wrong then all that follows is equally wrong as well. When the brain divides the universe into pairs of opposites or dualities it can never arrive at truth; only a satisfactory illusion that seems to work for a while until a new illusion replaces it.

In order to glimpse reality one needs to go beyond mind. An example is a book by D.T. Suzuki called: “Zen—the doctrine of no-mind.” This is one of many methods to achieve consciousness beyond our intellect, which is in reality an aspect of our being, where things are perceived as connected, which isn’t the best term because connected implies that there can be disconnection, so maybe it is more apropos to say the oneness of all that is.

The ego is an illusion but we make it real with the mind because before we are conscious of our total self we have a need to identify who we are and derive some reason for our existence. There has to be some purpose and understanding of our existence or else life seems empty so we need to create one. When the mind is governed by what is perceived and our emotional relation to it then who we are is generally related to material objects, feelings and what we think. Our true nature is not seen until we wake up. It is like a baby in the crib who is not conscious of even his physical body. One day he grabs his foot and he gets some kind curious experience with it. As time passes he has a deeper experience with it and a passing thought that this might be a part of himself. He is having a physical experience. He then wakes up and knows this foot as part of his being and will always be part of his being; he then had a physical awakening. This same thing happens when we have a spiritual awakening; we discover an aspect of our self that has always been there and is as much a part of who we are as the awareness of the foot was to the baby.

This consciousness of the higher self begins to be the governor of the mind which is the true purpose of the mind; to receive and transmit images of the soul or higher mind. The soul doesn’t remember in thoughts but rather in symbols and it is the bridge to a higher aspect of understanding known as group—consciousness. This is like plugging the computer into the World Wide Web, which is an interesting term in itself. Then the very limited personal computer can contact sources of knowledge beyond itself. This in turn brings one to the totality and oneness of all that is. In our evolutionary path like the butterfly we will transcend the need for our physical selves with all its limitations and be released from the womb and be free to be anywhere in the universe at will.

From the consciousness of being on planet earth when we are perceiving a star in its past from the time it takes its light to reach us then this illusion will appear that a being of consciousness that is able to make the journey instantly at will would be going to the future. But from the consciousness of the being making the trip it will appear that the illusion of time will have been transcended and he will only perceive everything in the internal now as is the reality. It is like an electron that is really everywhere at once but appears where the observer looks at it.

One major illusion is that there is a dichotomy between science and spiritual knowledge. Both are pursuing truth and both can raise consciousness. Form a flat earth to a world of 11 dimensions is pretty amazing as a journey of consciousness in such a short evolutionary period.

Now that is some honest humor. LOL I have always been envious of folks who could read mathematical language as simply as I could read a book, well some books anyway. My daughter can read a complicated physics equation as simply as I could read: See Dick run. Run Dick run.

I have always been good in math but it helps to go to school and not be a high school drop out. I always wanted to get to the interesting stuff without going through the boring stuff, but that doesn't work to well.

185185: First of all, I was just making a silly joke. So many forums have people saying, "What part of ________ do you not understand?" My joke is "What part of Einstein's Theory of Relativity do you not understand?" as if it is a concept that is simple to grasp. Get it?

I am a Christian and I do believe God created the universe, but I do not believe he intended us to take the description in Genesis literally. If you consider that a "day" in Genesis is a phase or an era instead of a literal 24 hour period then the Big Bang follows Creation.

I don’t consider true belief of false belief, true prophets or false prophets or true and false anything. That is a duality of the mind and has nothing to do with truth. I don’t really believe in anything absolutely for I may change my mind tomorrow. I consider myself to be a seeker after truth and not one that possesses truth. The moment I think I have truth I closed myself off from any further and deeper understanding of truth.

Language is terribly inadequate for conveying truth because people hear according to their experiences with what is said. For instance the term ‘love’ said to a person who has just had his wife leave him will bring about an association with pain while the same term with someone who has just got married will bring about an association with joy. Both have noting to do with love because love is a state of being and not an emotion. Emotions are fear based that may manifest in many different ways such as anger or hate which is fear turned outward and self-pity and depression which is fear turned inward. Something like excitement or desire is seemingly pleasurable aspects of fear for those that have never experienced the freeing aspects of love with its joy and bliss.

The only language that transcends the dualities of the mind is mathematics as 2 + 2 = 4 regardless of any belief system your religion, politics, race, or social conditioning. Time travel may or may not be possible but as soon as we absolutely believe one way or another we will close or minds to any further possibly of discovering an answer, even if it leads to an awareness of something other than time travel. Often when pondering and investigating one thing I have receive an awareness of something unrelated to the original focus of my contemplation.

When I lose my wonder of the universe and all it contains life will become meaningless and the adventure will cease and I will become spiritually dead.

The example of the butterfly was an analogy of awareness. The caterpillar has no consciousness that he will someday be transformed into a butterfly. The caterpillar has a practical reason in nature for being a caterpillar but is limited in its movement and view of the world. Like the caterpillar we too have something within us that we are not aware of. When the caterpillar becomes the butterfly he can fly and travel great distances and have an entirely different view of the world as it had as a caterpillar. Like the caterpillar we also have this bulky dense physical form that is just a temporary home for something within us that will eventually not be needed and we will transcend time and space when our dense physical form in no longer needed to house that which is within us.

That is well and good but I don't see how any of that relates to my post. It is much simpler to just say you don't believe it is possible or you think it is worth contemplating. There are some things that one can experience but few are those that have the desire or willingness to go through the preparation and work for it. Such as string theory which takes years of sacrifice and study of mathematics which I do have the desire but have neither the time, money or ability to do so at my age. Some of those knowledgeable of the mathematical language so as to understand it my never see the proof in their lifetime.

There are myriad choices in the world to find isolated things to prove any point we want. There are Christian schools here that teach their children that the world is 6,000 years old and that dinosaurs never existed. Some people still believe the moon landing was faked and there still is a flat earth society.
