1. a botanical name at the rank of order. Circumscription and placement of the order will depend on taxonomic system or viewpoint. As accepted by the APG II system (2003) this order is placed in the clade asterids (in the euasterids II, to be precise). In the earlier Cronquist system (1981) the order was placed in the subclass Asteridae of class Magnoliopsida.
