Etymology


Probably derived from, or at least cognate with, and Icelandic banga "to pound, hammer,", cognate with Danish banke "to beat," Danish and German Bengel "club", (rare) etc. perhaps of onomatopoeic origin, coinciding with Korean 방아 (banga) "pounding" or milling of grain.
