The mountain has two peaks, the highest being 1,751 meters. Approximately 1.5 km north of the highest peak is a peak with height 1,651 meters.

The name

The first element is probably øl m 'warmth, heat', the last element is the finite form of fjell n 'fell, mountain'. (The top of the mountain is seldom covered with snow.)
